Among 3266 LURIC patients referred for coronary angiography, 46.6% of all diabetic individuals (486 of 1042) had previously unrecognized type 2 diabetes, raising the overall diabetic proportion to 31.9%. Independent predictors of unrecognized diabetes included CRP >5 mg/L, arterial hypertension, BMI >30 kg/m2, age >=65 years, and a positive family history. Patients with unrecognized diabetes faced significantly higher odds of coronary artery disease (OR 1.7) and multivessel disease (OR 1.4), supporting routine diabetes screening in this high-risk population.
