In the LURIC cohort (2,694 CAD cases, 530 controls), RANTES A-allele carrier frequency was 36.01% in cases vs. 30.19% in controls (OR = 1.30, p = 0.010), and the G-403A polymorphism retained independent association with CAD on multivariate analysis (p = 0.0038). RANTES A-403 increases genetic susceptibility to CAD, with effects enhanced in smokers and in acute coronary syndrome.
