Platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase activity indicates angiographic coronary artery disease independently of systemic inflammation and other risk factors: the Ludwigshafen Risk and Cardiovascular Health Study

PAF-AH activity was examined in 2,454 CAD cases and 694 controls from LURIC, correlating strongly with apolipoprotein B (r = 0.644) and non-HDL cholesterol (r = 0.648) but not with inflammatory markers. After adjustment for cardiovascular medications, each PAF-AH increment carried an odds ratio of 1.39 (95% CI 1.26 to 1.54, p < 0.001) for angiographic CAD, marking it as an independent indicator of atherosclerosis rather than systemic inflammation.
