Adiponectin serum concentrations were measured by ELISA in 1626 male LURIC participants classified as controls, silent CAD, stable angina, or unstable angina. Adiponectin was significantly lower in patients with stable (7.22 microg/ml) and unstable angina (6.72 microg/ml) than in controls (8.56 microg/ml; p < 0.001), and logistic regression identified low adiponectin as an independent predictor of symptomatic CAD. No further decrease was observed with advancing angina severity, suggesting adiponectin reflects symptomatic disease rather than its progression.
