Among 3,316 LURIC patients followed for a median of 7.8 years, neutrophil count (HR 1.90, 95% CI 1.39-2.60, p < 0.001) and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (HR 1.68, p = 0.003) were independent predictors of cardiovascular mortality after adjustment for conventional risk factors. Neutrophil count outperformed C-reactive protein after mutual adjustment, suggesting that routine neutrophil counting may improve cardiovascular mortality risk stratification.
