EPIQ (EPIstasis detection for Quantitative GWAS) was introduced as a computationally efficient algorithm for detecting SNP-SNP epistatic interactions in quantitative GWAS, using metric embedding and random projections to avoid exhaustive pairwise testing. Applied to LURIC study data, it identified a SNP pair with a near-significant interaction (p = 2.2 × 10(-13)) in 1.5 hours on 10 processors, a task requiring days with existing methods. The approach substantially reduces the computational burden of interaction-based GWAS for quantitative traits.
