Beta-trace protein (BTP) concentrations and mortality were examined in 2962 LURIC participants referred for coronary angiography and 907 type 2 diabetes patients undergoing haemodialysis from the 4D study. In haemodialysis patients the highest BTP quartile (>7.96 mg/L) carried an adjusted all-cause mortality HR of 1.62 (95% CI 1.19-2.20); in LURIC participants the corresponding HR was 1.23 (95% CI 1.0-1.51). The BTP/creatinine ratio proved a stronger predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality than BTP alone in both cohorts.
