LDL triglycerides were measured in 3,140 LURIC participants prospectively followed for cardiovascular mortality over a median of 9.9 years, revealing a graded positive association (hazard ratio 5th vs. 1st quintile = 2.53, p < 0.001). Genome-wide association analysis implicated the hepatic lipase region (rs1800588, rs10468017; p < 10(-15)), and two-sample Mendelian randomization using HERITAGE and CARDIoGRAMplusC4D data suggested that low hepatic lipase activity may causally increase cardiovascular risk (p = 0.013).
