Independent Effects of Kidney Function and Cholesterol Efflux on Cardiovascular Mortality

Ritsch A, Hunjadi M, Stojakovic T, Scherberich JE, Silbernagel G, Scharnagl H, Delgado GE, Kleber ME et al.

Genetic markers for kidney function and cholesterol efflux capacity were analyzed in 2469 LURIC patients referred for coronary angiography. A genetic score of 53 GFR-associated SNPs and the uromodulin SNP rs12917707 were inversely correlated with cholesterol efflux capacity, in line with the observed association between efflux and measured kidney function. Adjustment for eGFR and uromodulin did not alter the efflux-cardiovascular mortality relationship, suggesting these pathways operate independently.
