Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) components and neurohormones were assessed as predictors of cardiovascular mortality (CVM) in 3316 LURIC patients stratified by pulse pressure and RAAS-blocker use. Renin (HR = 1.17–1.36) and noradrenaline (HR = 1.15–1.29) predicted CVM independently of RAAS blockade, while aldosterone was predictive only among ACE-inhibitor users (HR = 1.13). These findings indicate that catecholamines, but not renin, are specifically associated with rising pulse pressure.
