Circulating ANGPTL3/8, ANGPTL4/8, and CD-ANGPTL4 were measured in 2394 LURIC and 6188 getABI participants and related to LPL activity and cardiovascular mortality. ANGPTL3/8 inhibited GPIHBP1-bound LPL and was associated with LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, yet did not predict cardiovascular death in either cohort. ANGPTL4/8 and CD-ANGPTL4 were associated with CRP, prevalent diabetes, and cardiovascular mortality; hazard ratios for CD-ANGPTL4 (third vs. first tertile) were 2.44 in LURIC and 2.76 in getABI.
