In 3,316 LURIC patients, Lp(a) above 100 mg/dL was associated with increased cardiovascular mortality (HR 1.5, 95% CI 1.06-2.12), as were hsCRP above 2 mg/L (HR 1.39) and IL-6 in the upper category (HR 1.92, 95% CI 1.64-2.23). High IL-6 further elevated CVD mortality risk at Lp(a) exceeding 100 mg/dL (HR 1.25, 95% CI 1.09-1.44), indicating that anti-inflammatory treatment may provide additional benefit for patients with markedly elevated Lp(a).
