Self-reported physical fitness (SRPF), rated on an 11-point Likert scale, was examined in 3,248 LURIC participants over a mean follow-up of 9.9 years. The highest SRPF class showed markedly lower cardiovascular mortality (HR 0.14, 95% CI 0.08-0.24) compared with the lowest, independently of cardiometabolic risk factors and regardless of coronary artery disease status. These findings suggest that SRPF constitutes a simple predictor of mortality suitable for routine clinical assessment.
