The PlA1/A2 polymorphism of platelet glycoprotein IIIa (GPIIIa) was genotyped in 3,298 LURIC participants (1,051 with type 2 diabetes, 2,247 without). Genotype frequencies were nearly identical between groups, and the PlA2 allele was not associated with glucose metabolism parameters, angiographic CHD (adjusted OR 1.13; 95% CI 0.93-1.39), or myocardial infarction. The results do not support a pathogenic role for GPIIIa PlA1/A2 in type 2 diabetes.
