Among 1,309 LURIC participants, CRP was higher in apoE2 carriers and apoE3/3 homozygotes than in apoE4-allele carriers (p = 0.002 and p = 0.032), while fibrinogen and white cell count were unrelated to apoE genotype. CRP predicted coronary artery disease with crude odds ratios of 1.87 and 2.24 in the second and third tertiles. These results suggest that the apoE polymorphism modifies the predictive value of CRP for CAD.
