Resistin plasma levels were measured in 1,162 LURIC participants (911 with angiographic coronary artery disease, 251 without) and followed over a mean of 5.47 years. Resistin correlated positively with CRP, VCAM-1, and ICAM-1 and negatively with glomerular filtration rate (the strongest predictor in multiple regression) and HDL, but was not independently associated with angiographic CAD. Fourth-quartile resistin predicted significantly higher noncardiovascular mortality after multivariable adjustment (HR 4.92, 95% CI 1.66-14.6, p = 0.004).
