Three polymorphisms at the CRP locus (rs2794521, rs1800947, rs1130864) and related haplotypes were examined in the LURIC cohort for associations with circulating CRP and angiographic coronary artery disease. The rs1800947 minor allele associated with decreased CRP and rs1130864 with increased CRP, but none of the variants associated with angiographic CAD prevalence, suggesting the CRP-cardiovascular risk relationship may reflect confounding rather than causation.
