Five polymorphisms and related haplotypes at the PLA2G7 locus were examined for associations with coronary artery disease, plasma lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (LpPLA2) activity, and long-term survival in 3234 LURIC patients referred for coronary angiography. The rare Thr(198) allele was more frequent in subjects without CAD (adjusted OR 0.69, 95% CI 0.49-0.96), while no variant showed a robust association with all-cause or cardiovascular mortality. Whether PLA2G7 polymorphisms have a causal role in cardiovascular disease among Caucasians therefore remains uncertain.
