PAC was measured in 3153 LURIC patients referred for coronary angiography and followed for a median of 7.7 years. In multivariable Cox analyses, the highest PAC quartile carried a hazard ratio of 1.58 (95% CI 1.15-2.16, p = 0.004) for cardiovascular mortality versus the lowest, with strong associations for fatal stroke and sudden cardiac death. PAC variation within the normal range independently predicted cardiovascular and all-cause mortality.
