PTH levels were measured in 3232 LURIC patients referred for coronary angiography and followed for a median of 7.7 years. Compared with the lowest quartile, the highest PTH quartile carried adjusted hazard ratios of 1.71 for all-cause and 2.02 for cardiovascular mortality; the association was strongest for sudden cardiac death (adjusted HR 2.68). PTH thus emerges as an independent predictor of mortality in this population.
