Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) and glycaemic status were examined cross-sectionally in 3316 LURIC patients undergoing coronary angiography. Higher 25[OH]D was inversely associated with fasting glucose, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, IL-6 and hs-CRP. After full adjustment, optimal 25[OH]D was associated with reduced odds for fasting diabetes (OR = 0.63; 95% CI 0.46-0.86) and all hyperglycaemic states combined (OR = 0.68; 95% CI 0.52-0.80), supporting a role for vitamin D in attenuating diabetes.
