In 2015 LURIC participants referred for coronary angiography, both 25(OH)D and 1,25(OH)2D correlated inversely with neopterin (rs = -0.183 and -0.230) and hsCRP (rs = -0.142 and -0.130; all p < 0.0001). CAD patients had higher neopterin and hsCRP than controls but similar vitamin D levels. These results suggest that low vitamin D status is accompanied by elevated inflammatory and immune activation markers.
