HDL efflux capacity was compared between 154 LURIC patients with plasma CETP below 0.68 ug/mL or above 2.13 ug/mL (n = 77 each). Patients with high CETP showed 5.4% greater cholesterol efflux from macrophages (P = 0.015), independent of classical risk factors and lipid parameters. The findings suggest that low endogenous CETP impairs reverse cholesterol transport, pointing to an atheroprotective role of CETP in coronary artery disease.
