C-terminal FGF23 was measured in 2974 LURIC participants and related to mortality over a median 9.9-year follow-up (884 deaths). Age- and sex-adjusted hazard ratios for the highest versus lowest quartile were 2.54 for all-cause and 2.56 for cardiovascular mortality; after full adjustment, each SD increment carried HRs of 1.38 and 1.35, respectively. FGF23 thus independently predicts long-term mortality in this population.
