Among 3299 LURIC patients referred for coronary angiography, low 25-hydroxyvitamin D and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D concentrations were each independently associated with anemia (prevalence 16.7%); multivariable-adjusted odds ratios were 1.52 and 3.59 for lowest-category deficiencies, rising to 5.11 with combined deficiency. Patients with chronic kidney disease-related anemia showed the highest prevalence of both deficiencies, suggesting they may benefit most from vitamin D intervention.
