Copeptin, a surrogate for arginine vasopressin, was measured in LURIC (n = 3131) and the 4D Study (n = 1241) to examine associations with cause-specific mortality across the spectrum of renal function. Median copeptin rose markedly with declining eGFR, reaching 80.8 pmol/L in hemodialysis patients. Per SD increase, coronary and all-cause mortality risk increased by 25% and 15% in patients with eGFR 60-89 mL/min/1.73 m2, with no significant association in those with normal renal function.
