Myeloperoxidase, asymmetric dimethyl-arginine and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system in cardiovascular risk patients: Cross-sectional findings from the Ludwigshafen Risk and Cardiovascular Health (LURIC) study

Zelzer S, Enko D, Pilz S, Tomaschitz A, März W, Meinitzer A

Interactions among myeloperoxidase (MPO), asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), and circulating renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) markers were examined in 1,446 LURIC patients referred for coronary angiography. MPO was significantly associated with ADMA (P = 0.002), renin (P = 0.001), and angiotensin II (P = 0.015), while both were inversely correlated with angiotensinogen and angiotensin I. ADMA and angiotensin II proved stronger independent predictors of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality than MPO.
