Gal-3BP plasma levels were measured in 2922 LURIC participants to examine associations with coronary artery disease and long-term mortality. Higher Gal-3BP quintiles were independently associated with all-cause (HR Q5 1.292, p = 0.027) and cardiovascular mortality (HR Q5 1.433, p = 0.019), though Mendelian randomization did not support causality. Gal-3BP appears to reflect metabolic and inflammatory distress and adds prognostic value to the ESC score in high-risk patients.
