Soluble urokinase plasminogen activation receptor (suPAR) was measured in 2940 LURIC participants and related to all-cause and cardiovascular mortality over nearly 10 years. Compared with the lowest suPAR quartile, hazard ratios for cardiovascular death were 1.58, 1.85, and 2.75 in quartiles two through four, independent of NT-proBNP, eGFR, and inflammatory markers. suPAR thus serves as an independent long-term predictor of cardiovascular death in persons undergoing coronary angiography.
