Area-based socioeconomic status (abSES) and its association with mortality were examined among 3316 LURIC patients followed for a median of 10 years. Lower abSES was linked to higher HbA1c, systemic inflammation, vitamin D deficiency and diabetes prevalence. Participants in the most socioeconomically deprived groups had significantly elevated mortality (HR 1.32, 95% CI 1.13-1.54), suggesting that regional disadvantage independently predicts adverse outcomes.
