In 3,134 LURIC participants followed for a median 9.9 years, 597 cardiovascular deaths occurred. After adjustment, SAA independently predicted short-term cardiovascular mortality (HR per SD 1.41 at 6 months to 1 year) and IL-6 predicted long-term mortality (HRs per SD 1.21, 1.22 and 1.18 at 3, 5 and 9.9 years), while CRP lost significance. The findings support the differential prognostic value of inflammatory biomarkers in coronary artery disease.
