Plasma soluble CD40L (sCD40L) levels were measured in 2,759 LURIC participants, and Cox proportional hazard regression assessed associations with short-term (12-month) and long-term (10-year) cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. No significant association was found overall; elevated sCD40L correlated with short-term mortality only in selected subgroups, and this association disappeared in long-term analyses. The results suggest sCD40L is not a reliable prognostic marker for mortality in patients referred for coronary angiography.
