Plasma protein associations with cardiovascular death were investigated in chronic coronary heart disease patients, with STABILITY (605 cases) as derivation and LURIC (245 cases, 1,042 non-cases, 12-year follow-up) as replication cohort. Eighteen proteins showed independent association in both cohorts; NTproBNP (HR 2.079) and high-sensitivity troponin T (HR 1.715) carried the strongest prognostic signal. Multi-protein profiles may help identify pathophysiological pathways underlying cardiovascular mortality risk.
