The predictive value of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), coronary artery disease (CAD) and carotid stenosis (CS) for mortality was examined in 3316 patients from the LURIC cohort. Hazard ratios for all-cause and cardiovascular mortality rose progressively with the number of affected vascular beds, and PAD combined with CS carried the highest risk (HR 7.53 and 6.03, respectively). Polyvascular disease burden was also associated with elevated pulse pressure, indicating that increasing atherosclerotic load contributes to vascular stiffness.
