Platelet Reactivity and Cardiovascular Mortality Risk in the LURIC Study

Berger M, Dressel A, Kleber ME, März W, Hellstern P, Marx N, Schütt K

Platelet ADP-induced CD62P and CD63 expression was measured by flow cytometry in 1520 LURIC patients to assess platelet reactivity (PR) as a mortality predictor in a P2Y12-inhibitor-naive population. Both high and low PR predicted cardiovascular and all-cause mortality at a risk equivalent to coronary artery disease (HR 1.4 each). Aspirin treatment reduced mortality only in high-PR patients (p for interaction 0.02), while glucose control, renal function, and inflammation modified risk independently of PR.
