A genetic depression risk score (GDRS) was evaluated for its association with all-cause and cardiovascular (CV) mortality in 3,061 LURIC participants referred for coronary angiography. After adjustment for traditional cardiovascular risk factors, the GDRS remained independently associated with all-cause mortality (HR 1.18, p = 0.013) and CV mortality (HR 1.31, p = 0.001). No biomarkers correlating with the GDRS were identified, leaving the mechanistic pathway linking genetic depression risk to mortality unresolved.
