Whole-blood microRNA profiles from the Young Finns Study (n=871) were analysed, with replication in LURIC (n=999), to examine associations with blood pressure and incident hypertension. Cross-sectionally, 16 miRNAs correlated with blood pressure; miR-122-5p and miR-144-5p differentiated hypertensive individuals. Prospectively, miR-19a-3p (OR=1.51), miR-19b-3p (OR=1.50), and miR-329-3p (OR=0.58) predicted incident hypertension, with miR-329-3p improving model discrimination (c-statistic=0.849, delta=0.026), supporting these miRNAs as candidates for hypertension risk prediction.
